The Humbling

It has been said:
As soon as you know
you are humble,
you are no longer humble.

It has also been said:
“I have tried hard to find You –
don’t let me wander
from Your commands.”
*

I have repeated both
while enslaved still
in spiritual pride
with knowledge only at my side.

I have experienced both
with tears in my throat
a swollen heart in my chest
and only one place to rest.

What now, my Lord,
as I bob about endlessly
in this raging sea of humanity –
pride, ego, disgusted with me
or
unknowingly living Your Humility?

*Psalm 119:10 (NLT)
