While experiencing a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Caron Treatment Centers during the spring of 2021, and now as a part-time member of Caron’s Spiritual Care team, I have been offered the opportunity to speak in two settings. First, I presented a Spirituality Lecture entitled, “Living Life on Life’s Terms” to an in-person audience. The link for the PDF of this lecture is available below. Second, I have facilitated the Sunday morning inter-faith chapel service for patients in-person and live-streamed to all units. While the entire service cannot be recorded due to HIPAA privacy laws, the weekly message (or homily) can be and was recorded. That link is also available below.
I share these items here because I have recognized through these opportunities a passion to serve others in this way. In taking the time to prepare the lecture and the homilies, I have felt closer to God than I have in a long time. It felt as if God were providing a thrilling adventure ride for me as I followed along with each moment of preparation. There have been moments when I felt like we were dropping down the biggest hill on a roller-coaster ever and I wanted to slam on the brakes, but instead I trusted the safety belt God had in place for me. And, the outcome of the preparation was a lecture that was received well by both the patients in attendance, as well as my supervisor and other staff members, as well as chapel services that lifted my spirit to incredible new heights.
I had previously spoken in public for my recovery programs, my job, and for the weddings of friends, but these opportunities have been different. These situations where I am carrying God’s message and working with God to motivate others to grow in their own relationship with God have been beyond anything I have ever known as far as fulfillment goes. I pray that your review of them will bring you as much fulfillment.
