The Present

The chill of this morning’s air
offers promise of autumn days ahead:
leaves will be vibrant with color
deep pale yellow
golden orange
fiery red
all will fall
to adorn the floor
of this stunning scene
with slippery spots
when mixed with rain
and the crinkly pops
of children’s play

An orchestra of crickets offers
a cacophony
of tuning instruments
intensifying anticipation
as the audience members
meander to their seats

The summer was long
oppressively hot
barely a day of shade
in the endless traveling to
– or grasping for –
the perfect getaway

It is a shame that the phone was lost there
with pictures that never made it to the cloud

Now you’ll just have to sit
amongst this moment
and enjoy today’s show

Its title – so clever:
The Present.

The Present.
