Oh, woe is me –
suffering with a painful gait
where once there was a youthful strength
Oh, woe is me –
struggling to make ends meet
while waiting for Your path of abundance
Oh, woe is me –
giving love and acceptance and grace
and still longing for someone
– anyone –
to let me out in traffic
Oh, woe is me –
horrified by my entitlement
to complain to a world in chaos
Relieve me, dear Lord, of myself –
otherwise I’ll become a pillar of salt,
stuck forever in this woe-is-me salute.
