Even when the darkness
was deafening,
I could still
hear God
in the longing call
of a mourning dove
Even when the darkness
was suffocating,
I could still
breathe God
off the ocean’s breeze –
sprays of refreshing love
Even when the darkness
was blinding,
I could still
see God
in the bright orange
leaves of an autumn tree
And,
Even when the darkness
was desolate,
I could still
love God
through an abandoned
kitten purring in need
Open your eyes, my friends
so your ears may hear
Fill your lungs, my friends
make your hearts aware
God is...
in the tree,
the breeze,
the salty sea spray
His love sings through
the dark clouds
at the end of the day
And when a bird’s song
sets your heart aglow
or
the adopted pet won’t let the stare go,
know He is there, caring for you
know He is full, loving on you
