Someone once said, “Gratitude is the sign of noble souls.” That is lovely, but I don’t think of myself as noble, with synonyms like virtuous and gallant and honorable. Oh, but I am filled with gratitude, and it is spilling over and washing clean the way I have always thought of myself: corrupt and fearful and disgraced; so that today, I can think of myself as humbled and pliable and, oh so, grateful.
