Ode to 1 Corinthians 12:4-27

A thumb is needed and useful,
just as is the foot that walks the earth.
Yet, alone
they have no use, no purpose, no need, no glory;
for wherever can a foot walk without a leg,
and however can a thumb grasp without a hand?
Connected then,
a body moves freely,
without thought,
somehow magically unconscious
of its power.
It makes me wonder,
how free we would all be,
if only the thumbs of this world
would just stop wishing
they were feet.
