The afternoon was
rainy
no, just misty
and cold,
like late autumn always is
at dusk;
the sun,
too low in the sky
to be seen
or felt,
now only remnants
of some burnt hues
left in a thin line of fading clouds.
Almost home,
I noticed
the belt of a trench coat
waving at me,
just around the corner –
and I immediately knew
who waited there –
truth.
So,
I decided to go out to dinner
instead of going home just then –
it would be easier to deal
with that trench coat
in the dark.
