Pray and serve and love,
it’s what I can do –
as hate fills the courtrooms of my beloved country,
as disease steals the lives of those I love,
as children go hungry,
as murderous bombs fill the skies
and mask as fashion on the torsos of extremists,
as division strikes the hearts of neighbors and friends,
as God’s world is destroyed by ignorance,
as loneliness tells me this vast void of emptiness is all there is –
pray and serve and love,
it’s what I can do.
