The Contemplative Action*

I listen
and
I wait.
This part of the journey
is often
peaceful, yet monotonous,
and,
oh, so necessary.

When the nudge finally arrives,
I examine it
and
I ask questions.
This part of the journey
is often
hopeful, yet frightening,
and,
oh, so necessary.

In the clarity that follows,
I stand
and
I move.
This part of the journey
is often
exhilarating, yet uncomfortable,
and,
oh, so necessary.

I dare not deny
the necessary,
the oh, so necessary,
parts of the journey.
