Tug O’Worry

Watch as I give this worry away
to God –
I open my hands
and ask him to take it,
knowing there is nothing left
for me to do with it –
I feel relief,
freedom,
clarity,
hope,
even joy –
until suddenly,
for reasons unknown to me,
I frantically run back to grasp the worry
from his wise and loving hands.
Like a child,
incapable of going without her blankie
for the length of one wash and dry cycle,
I am unhealthily attached
to this worry.
Thankfully,
just as a loving mother
who has had enough of stinky blankies,
God will be there
when I’m ready –
really ready –
to
wash
away
this
worry.
