There Are Daffodils Everywhere

So long ago
on a damp autumn morning
in October
appeared a
bouquet of daffodils –
so yellow and alive
during a season of dying
and that one day just for death.
They were a surprise –
an odd surprise –
one that never would have happened
in life.
And when they crumbled
into brown edges
and stinky mildew
of cut stems,
they were discarded,
forgotten by most
as that odd surprise…
…until now
when there are daffodils everywhere!
They are bursting forth
in the vibrant yellowy-gold
of springtime –
even during the coffin of winter –
they leap
and sing
and smile
blessings of generations
scarred with pain
and disappointment
and regret –
and they
YAWP!
YAWP! beyond that pain
into the heart now beating
so steadily in healing,
and they sway,
yellowy-golden sunshine-y moments
that can only be expressed as
JOY!
