Dear God…

Please help us to stop arguing. Everywhere, everyone seems to be pointing and blaming or yelling and disgracing – attempting to shame those with differing opinions into agreeing with them – even at the cost of a lie. Help us, God, to listen more and judge less. To help more and hurt less. Show us where You need us to go and what You need us to do. We obviously don’t know Your will right now. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be pointing and blaming and yelling and disgracing.

I am tired, God. Tired of muffling my opinions for fear of being dismissed with the roll of an eye, or ostracized for not agreeing with another. I’m tired of the fighting. I’m tired of there being no gray areas in any conversation, only black and white, right or wrong. I’m tired of trying to figure it all out. I’m tired of having no trust in the facts, if that’s what we can still call them. I’m tired of not knowing what is true and what is a lie.

Thank You, God, for giving me the words to write that last line – reminding me that what is true and what is a lie means nothing, really, because I know You are the only Truth I will ever need – that any of us will ever need. It is in that recognition that You give me the prayer I was meant to pray today:

Please help us, God,
to find our way back to You,
to remember we are Your family,
to gaze on each other as kin.
Please help us, God,
to see Your Truth in each other
to live in Your Truth each day
to rest in Your Truth each night.
Please help us, God,
to bring to our minds
and to our hearts
and to our souls
that You are all
we will ever need.
Amen.
