The Gift of Love

“There’s nothing you can do to make God love you any more or any less. It’s a gift. Receive it.”
– Joel Osteen

The greatest gift God has ever given us is His love. It is unconditional. It is the same for every single one of us. That’s right – the same for every single one of us.

God loves me, no matter what I have done or haven’t done.
God loves you, no matter what you have done or haven’t done.
God loves the child who just took her first breath in the delivery room just as much as He loves her father who left her mother when she became pregnant.
God loves that single mother just as much as He loves her boss who will fire her when she is unable to come back to work in three weeks.
God loves the teenager who cut you off on the highway yesterday just as much as He loves the little old man who let you go in front of him in traffic last week.
God loves the President of the United States just as much as He loves the Prime Minister of Canada.
God loves the murderer, the cheater, the liar and the thief just as much as He loves the nun, the volunteer, the philanthropist and the missionary.

God offers His love to all of us. Our only job is to receive it. Yet, how often do we miss out on that gift because we are too busy beating ourselves up over past mistakes or current failures? Perhaps we can’t comprehend God’s love for us because we are unable to love our brothers and sisters who walk the earth beside us. Maybe we need a little practice.

The next time someone is rude in your presence, try to hold that person in love instead of thinking nasty thoughts about them. When some guy takes the last seat on the bus without even offering it to you, why not smile at him and envision the word “Love” surrounding him? It can’t hurt – and it is better than the alternative of spreading negative energy back to him, which has to travel through you first! This isn’t easy to do, but I guarantee you will feel better about yourself and about others. Best of all, you will feel God’s love for you as you have never felt it before. His love is a gift! You are worthy of receiving it!
