The Choice

To absorb the grace of the sun’s warmth
or to complain about its heat…
To criticize a dreary day of rain
or to anticipate brightly colored flowers…
To yell at the birds for pooping on the deck
or to appreciate the nearness of nature…
To welcome a moment of calm
or to roll my eyes at the slow-as-a-turtle cashier…
To judge the group of protesters blocking traffic
or to pray for a unifying peace…
To love the other with no condition
or to expect the world in return…

To question the way my life is going
or to trust that I don’t need to know…
