On the eve of Your torture and death,
my Lord,
You pray for me.
You pray for all the world
in fact…
…sight unseen
Your heart already knows
how much we need Your prayer,
Your heart already loves
despite our lack of care.
It is a far-off reach for me
to comprehend
Your mercy
Your grace
Your love
poured out in prayer
for us –
Your accusers
Your tormentors
Your murderers.
On the eve of Your torture and death,
my Lord,
You show us how
to storm the gates of death
with prayer
and care
and love…
…to give our-selves
in sacrifice
in order to be One.
