The Sign

It’s there every day as I drive to work
It’s there in the book I’m reading for class
It’s there in the conversations, the stories shared
It’s there in the helpful guidance set forth
It’s there in the friendships, the paths that cross

It’s not neon or sparkling red, white and blue
It’s not in bold print or billboard sized
It’s not loud or abrupt, too good to be true
It’s not a bright white light, a grand awakening
It’s not the only way to go

It reveals itself slowly, steadily, sweetly
It reveals itself methodically, repeatedly when needed
It reveals itself in cute winks and half-smiles
It reveals itself piece by piece, never in all
It reveals itself as my heart warms to its call

I miss it when I am focused on your faults
I miss it when I am focused on my wants
I miss it when I am focused on stuff
I miss it when I am focused on pain
I miss it when I am focused on more

The Sign is dwelling in the mosaic of God’s world…
Will I see it today?
