Before You Know It

The moon hung low in the sky,
not quite black with night
but finished with the light of day.
The face of the man inside – chiseled intricately
into the deep golden yellow glow –
beamed a sly smile at me, as if to say:
“I see you made it through another day, dear one.”
So, I smiled back at him –
(maybe the first real smile of the day)
and he led me home,
hovering just above the trees surrounding our humble abode –
a welcoming, calming warmth in sight.
I felt myself stepping out of the darkness of that day
as my soul transitioned to the calm of late autumn’s night.
And,
you may not believe what happened then,
but it’s true –
he winked a me,
that man in the moon,
blessing me with the promise of
soon.
