Death Is Not The End

Lately, I have wanted to pump my fist at the sky and scream,
“God, don’t You care about what I’m going through?!”
Sometimes it seems like He’s not paying attention,
or worse, that He knows what’s going on and just doesn’t care.

More often than not,
I don’t pump my fist at the sky and scream,
for fear of the lightening strikes promised to me
by human interpreters of God’s conditional love.

But then, this morning, sitting here missing you and wishing we could talk,
I decided to take a journey through your favorite book –
the stories given to Mark by Peter.
There, I read the words of His first disciples:

“Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”*

In that one simple statement,
and in His immediate response to His anxious students,
I realized something quite important –
human interpreters often get it wrong!

I couldn’t help but smile,
an awakened smile you would have loved,
that even in your death, my friend,
you are still leading me to the Truth.

*Mark 4:38b
