The directive was
so clear
so simple,
and still 
we miss the mark.

I, myself, 
blame that on
the distractions of this world
and
the implicit evil in humankind.

Yet, 
He knew of those things
firsthand,
and gave the directive anyway:
Love each other.
Just as I have loved you, 
you should love each other.*
