Psalm of Lament

I am tired
and my heart is heavy.
My ears suffer
under the blaring trumpets
of conflicting voices;
my eyes blur with tears
as my words and actions
are misunderstood.
And when I try to explain
no one can hear
as those same trumpets
drown out the truth for us all.
Can You hear me, my God?
Will You silence the noise
and wipe away my tears?
Humanity is failing itself!
We are desperate for Your intervention!
How much more must we endure
before You save us all?
Even as I ask for Your mercy
I am filled with shame
deep down in my bones,
for we have turned away from You
ungratefully believing in ourselves instead.
Oh, how disgraced we are in this mess!
Only Your power can redeem this world.
But how, when so many of us reject You?
I am so very lost in this sea of
restlessness and contempt!
All I can do now
is drop to my knees
and beg Your forgiveness and mercy
for us all –
even for those who do not believe in You,
my God!
I pray for us all in this moment.
Save us from ourselves!
Heal this broken world!
I lift my eyes up to You, God,
and open my fists,
surrendering it all to You now.
Amen.
