I’m Listening

If I could sit with God
and have Him answer
all the questions I’ve ever had,
I imagine His responses
would sound just like
the birdsongs that fill every morning’s dawn,
or the soothing melody of summer evening’s cricket symphony,
or maybe like the crashing of waves upon the shore
or the pitter-patter of a soaking rain…
…for my heart already knows the language spoken
in the soft purr of a contented cat,
the uninhibited belly laughter of my husband,
and the lifts and dips of a violin’s melancholy…
…I suppose the fear that remains within
lies in the chance that all God’s answers may just be
as silent as the falling snow.
