Ode to Jacob’s Hope

Looking back now
I can see
through the long nights,
the darkened shadows,
and murky uncertainties,
You were not silent
but ever present
and gracious
despite my blindness…

The blindness
to You
brought terror
with Your touch,
the need to turn away
and run with fear instead…

But now that I see
from Whom
the touch comes,
and hope
to where the touch leads,
I care not
how disabling
my limp will be,
“I will not
let You go
unless you bless me.”*

*Genesis 32:26b (NIV)
