or read the story of a survivor
and you will suddenly become
quite grateful for
a warm shower
a soft bed
a balanced meal
all your needs met…

…I cannot possibly
want for anything more
than that awareness
that gratitude,
and yet I am ashamed to say I do…

…So I pray today
for the lives cut short
for the families torn apart
for the children that were starved…

…May we never
see,
be,
live,
experience
such horrors
again…
